The past couple of days have been really nice, as far as the weather goes. I drove all the way up my driveway at the woodlot for the first time in months. It was nice to spend the day out there, and just take time to "breathe".
This was the view from my workshop a few days ago. It looked like the whole sky was on fire. To think, this will be the living paintings I'll get to enjoy everyday from my bedroom and kitchen windows, just a few months from now.
You can't see on these pictures, but there's mountain views too. My spot is kind of on a hillside, so I sit above the neighbor's roof. I do like being on top ;-)
The scenery is beautiful year round, and being out in the country, the absence of city lights make the night sky truly breathtaking. Yes, I will have a skylight.
The view will change before the house goes up. The same skyline of course, minus a few trees that are leaning towards the power lines, or where the buildings "are". And since my woodlot was dense with trees when I first got it, a lot of the trees tend to be pretty lanky, oxymoron right there. I was reluctant to cut them down at fist, trying to keep as many as I could, but I realized I could plant whatever I wanted, and I get to keep the wood... I love having my own little piece of Paradise on Earth !! :D
So many moving parts to this thing we call LIFE. Mine has changed in more ways then I can count over the past couple years. Whether that be my blog, my personal life, or my work. I'm not wanting to go in much detail about these changes on this post, I mostly wanna bring up a specific Clusterfuck I've had to deal with this week....
I guess a little buildup is still needed... Most of you know I have my own little Woodlot since March 2015, and that I have done some work on it before last winter set in. I haven't shared many specific, my apologies for that, I hope to rectify that in the near future. Movin' on...
I haven't been out there in a while. Winter's kinda draggin' on. I'm really hoping the last couple days of sunshine brought the snow down enough for me to go up the driveway. I did clear it out a few weeks ago, by hand, well shovel ;-) But we got more snow over the last month then we've had all winter :/
It's official, the Woodlot is covered with snow. It's probably gonna melt tomorrow, but still, I hit my target, and that makes me happy. I was working to get Phase One of my project complete before the snow hit, and minus a little wait time for the power company to come and hook me up, I'm good to go ;-)
I finally have a Workshop I can call my own!! :D
Yes, there is much more work to do to have it just the way I want it, but I'm on the right track. My apartment is a bit small, so the workshop is doubling as storage right now. Got no issue there, as I now have a safe place to stow my tools, and lots of room to make a mess if I so desire... and that I do ;-)
I was thinking.... I can't really keep calling it the woodlot now,
since I do have 2 buildings on there... Yes, the decoy shed counts :P
How 'bout The Homestead?... I have a Homestead now :D
I've gotten a few emails from some of you who are concerned about me... My apologies for taking so long. Didn't mean to worry anybody. I'm ok, just really busy. The weather's been nice for this time of year, so I've been doing as much as I can on My Woodlot, before the snow hits. Not really in a rush to move back in the igloo, eh ;-)
I spent the whole day at the woodlot yesterday. I made good progress. Things are slowly but surely falling into place. At the end of the day, I was sitting on one of my pile of trees, contemplating, then I started on this little sketch for the section of land I'm currently working on.
Actually, the sketch I drew on the lot is the messy looking one at the bottom. I made the nicer one from memory and mental measurements after I got home. The scale is pretty darn close. All these elements were previously only in my head. I really like seeing it like this :D The messy one too, I like the process...
I took a drive out to My Woodlot yesterday. Hadn't been there in over a month.
I mostly wanted to make sure everything was ok out there, you never know, eh ;-)
And also, mom and my daughter came with, so it was nice to show them
what I had done so far.
I brought some water for the new plants, just in case, but to my delight, they were doing awesome with no help from anyone. I was a little worried since they're not settled in yet, and it hadn't rained for a few weeks. But they looked good, so I guess that means
they like their new home.
Then I saw this little guy. Looks like somebody just had a snack.
Busy busy week getting a bunch of loose ends tied up. Went up river to my daughter's apartment, like three times. Came back to home base to work on a carving I'm doing for a friend. Went down river to my woodlot and got a few more plants settled in. I suppose I should let y'all know I'm going on another road trip real soon. I am very much looking forward to it. Come to think of it, I never did share those pics of my last one back in April, like I said I would... Bad MissK, Bad!
